Defining beautiful is complex . . . yet, . . .
there is something absolute about it when I feel it.
It’s a combination of “pretty”, “fragile”, “functional”, “delicious”, “warm”, “calm”, “peaceful”, “fragrant”, “familiar”, “uneasy”, “scary”, “rare”, “new”, “ emptiness” “hurtful”, and even “ugly”.
I find beauty in Japanese wood joineries, a piece of metal coupling, cracked ceramics, a lonely flower alongside a highway, my parent’s wedding picture, shadows on shoji screens, wrinkled hands, light reflecting on our aluminium shingles, . . . and even in a stained OSB.
